We got the phone call yesterday: we are not mutants. Well, at least not in any way that showed up on the testing that we had performed recently.
The chromosomal analysis that was performed on me and Steve established that each of us have a normal set of chromosomes, so it appears that a translocation is not the cause of all of our miscarriages.* The chromosomally-abnormal embryo from the last pregnancy, then, was just due to good old-fashioned crap luck.
It doesn't mean anything for us, really, for the short term, or our plans. I'm expecting my period in a few days, and then we'll start again with the drug-go-round/trying on our own for another few cycles. If that doesn't work out, and we have more losses, then we will probably look into IVIG. Otherwise, we will just hope that somehow, someday, we hit upon the lucky combination that means a successful pregnancy--sometime before Andrew starts middle school.
*When the nurse was telling me the results, she told me, "Yes, you were 46 XX, and Steve was 46 XY." I realized when she said that that when the nurse told me about the genetic abnormalities in the embryo from my last pregnancy, even though I had not wanted to know the sex, she had told me "47 [some combination of letters]." Thankfully, I wasn't with it enough to listen carefully that time, so I was left as clueless as I hoped to be. See, sometimes being ignorant really is blissful.
Hey, we talked about IVIG recently. Read this: http://forums.haveababy.com/index.php?act=announce&f=6&id=48

Gah, how I wish I would have went with the ignorance is bliss approach when we lost our pregnancy and just "turned off" when they told me. The chromosomal results of the embryo have been burned into my memory ever since (68XXY - 14, not that you asked or anything but, see, stuck. in. my. head. forever).
All the best as you go forward in the coming months :)
